About the Artist
Alex has been a practicing artist for ten years. After relocating to the area with her family, she sought out a creative practice to expand her personhood outside of the identity of “mother”. Alex creates to develop connection with community and as a way to transmute the pain and discomfort of living in a world where hyper-individualism is sold and delivered next-day while every heartbreak from the whole world is streamed and available immediately in our pocket.
Her technique, intentionally loose and uncontrolled, allows for natural organic textures and patterns to coalesce into imagined, yet familiar natural scenery and dreamscapes. Alex creates work with a variety of water-based mediums, her favorite being acrylic for its ability to be watered down and layered. She is inspired by the symbolism and spirituality that ebbs and flows throughout nature.
Her work aims to relax the viewer while igniting a curiosity and wonder for creative expression that modern existence aims to suppress. She hopes her work will guide the viewer to explore their own wild unknown and recognize that creativity is a necessary tool available for everyone.
